From BHAG TO HABG

From BHAG to HABG

What’s a BHAG? It's a Big Hairy Audacious Goal.  The term, coined in the 1994 book Built To Last, encouraged readers to look beyond short term business objectives to set long term goals. Setting the BHAG to sell my business and moving toward it by cultivating total transparency in my affairs with potential buyers, resulted in the business's eventual sale.  BHAG became the acronym we tossed around when we wanted to remind ourselves to aim high.  Any goal worth striving for had to be big and audacious.

Fast forward several years and a new BHAG. It is to be of service to others for their Highest And Best Good.  Their HABG.  Cute or what?  Someone said  ‘If you don’t need a higher power to obtain your goal, your goal isn’t big enough’. My new BHAG does need the help of a higher power.  It won't happen without the help of a higher power.

This new concept was illustrated when I sat down to create a website of my offerings.  Am I an entrepreneur?  Am I a medium or a mentor? An author or a motivational speaker?

The answer came as I sat in meditation.  ‘It’s not what you are – it’s what you offer.  You are human and spirit.  You know this. You can offer, without any doubt, to serve in someone’s highest and best good.’  Full stop.  That may be coaching an entrepreneur for an upcoming meeting, removing disruptive energies from someone's aura or facilitating a discussion about death.  It matters not as long as I’m simply operating with the intent to help based on their HABG. Stay in the light.  Don't doubt.  Wait for guidance.

HABG - BHAG. Same thing. Full stop.
