Our Meditation Circle
This deeply enriching and joyful part of my life began rather innocuously in the early 1990's as I sat with a group of trusted friends in a meditation circle. The purpose of the circle was, and still is, to encourage spiritual evolution and expansion. As we raised the vibration of our circle through a combination of prayer, sound and silence, we were aware that our strong faith and absence of fear helped create a strong emanation of light. As this light reached outward, it also filled us with a great peace and wellbeing. It was healing and fortifying, strengthening our knowing that we were loved, protected and guided.
As the years passed and our meditations continued, our abilities to sense energy and to connect with divine energies increased. As always, the intention was to foster wellbeing and healing and to increase our connectivity to the divine. We learnt that our guides and our loved ones are ever present and ready to assist. We learnt that we are never alone. We also learnt that every thought, word and deed is known. At first, this came as a shock to me. Everything is known? Everything. Our deepest secrets, our greatest strengths. Everything.
Even with busy schedules overloaded with work and family responsibilities, we made time, every second Friday evening, to gather. This continued for almost two decades. Today, our meditation circle dwindles to two people in the winter months and back up to full strength all summer long. Whether we're two or twenty, it is the greatest gift I give myself.
If you'd like to start your own meditation circle but are unsure how to proceed, here are a few tips:
- designate a specific day and time either weekly or bi-weekly
- gather in a quiet place - no tv, no radio, close all phones
- gather in the sunlight or in a dark room, day or night
- light a candle
- sit comfortably in a circle in straight back chairs (no need to suffer as you try to sit crosslegged on the floor)
- open and close the circle with a prayer of thanks and protection
- use various techniques to raise the energy of the group - music, crystal bowls, tibetan cymbals, singing, humming
Meditating with the intent to create joy in your life is truly loving yourself. The benefits grow incrementally with time. They are subtle, gentle. I still meditate solo but nothing beats where two or more are gathered...
