Salil's Magic
On Monday, October 19th, 2019, I had the great fortune of welcoming Salil Subedi into my humble home for a jam session, for lunch and especially for the discovery of new friendship.
Salil, a Nepali didgeridoo player, singer, multi-instrumentalist and storyteller uses a creative mix of instruments including jaw harps, bamboo flute, singing bowls, bells, and Nepali percussion to make his magic. The previous evening, he wowed the audience at a sold out public event with both solo moments and magical synergies created with 8 other musicians.
I was struck by his open heart, his willingness to share his music, his generosity with the other musicians and his playfulness. This is apart from his great skill as a musician. His full moon singing bowls create frequencies that resonate and delight. The sounds he coaxes from a didgeridoo are otherworldly. Thank you Salil for the phenomenon that is You.
Currently on a world tour, Salil plays this coming Saturday night, November 2nd at 8pm at the Small World Music Centre, 180 Shaw Street, Toronto, On.
